Event DetailsTour de Chatham 2013The Tour de Chatham is a family-friendly ride through the scenic seaside Village of Chatham, Massachusetts. The ride will take place on Saturday June 22, 2013. Two different rides are available to suit all riders, one of 7 miles and one of 23 miles, both starting at 10:00 A.M. at Oyster Pond near downtown. The 7 mile ride will take bicyclists on a tour of Chatham's Scenic Bike Route, following Stage Harbor Road, the Cedar Street - Battlefield Road - Champlain Road loop to Bridge Street, past scenic harbors and Chatham Light with its beautiful view of the Atlantic. Bikers will continue along Shore Road enjoying more ocean views and some of Chatham's grandest estates. The route continues through North Chatham via Old Harbor Road and Stony Hill Road before ending back at Oyster Pond. The 23 mile route begins with the Scenic Bike Route and will add the excursions to Morris Island, Forest Beach, The Fish Pier, Scatteree Beach and Chatham Light. The Chatham Police Department and many volunteers will help guide riders and direct traffic on public roads. Parking is available nearby at downtown lots, The Community Center (702 Main Street near the rotary) and at Chatham Elementary School (behind the Fire Station on Depot Road). Restroom facilities and a water fountain will be available at the police station on George Ryder Road adjacent to the bike trail on the long ride. We would like to remind all riders to practice safe bicycling. State law requires that children 16 and under wear helmets, but helmets are required for all riders at this event. All cyclists will ride on the right-hand side of the road. Passing cyclists should announce their intent to others they're overtaking with a call such as: “passing!” or “on your left!” Cyclists are expected to dismount at crosswalks and walk their bicycles to the other side, as required by state law. Please take a moment to register online HERE. There is a nominal fee of $15 which includes a commemorative T-shirt which may be picked up at the 9:00 A.M. check-in on June 22. Pump up your tires, check your brakes, pack a camera and put on a smile for Chatham's second annual Tour de Chatham! Last year's ride on YouTube |
